Online Catalogue Raisonné of Gustav Klimt’s Drawings
Beginning in 2025, the ALBERTINA Museum will publish an online catalogue raisonné of Gustav Klimt’s drawings. This project builds upon the four-volume catalogue by Alice Strobl (published by Galerie Welz GmbH, Salzburg, between 1980 and 1989 as an ALBERTINA publication), which was the result of decades of intensive research at the ALBERTINA Museum.
Dates, titles, and descriptions will be updated to reflect the latest state of research. Provenances, including auction records, literature, and exhibition histories, will be added. Scholarly discourse will be represented through texts and references to source materials.
The result will be an interactive database whose search and sorting functions go far beyond the usual requirements of a catalogue raisonné. Whenever possible, both current and previous ownerships will be linked to individual or institutional records, as will the depicted persons or models (where known).
The publication will be released in stages. The first installment—covering Gustav Klimt’s earliest drawings up to and including 1903—is scheduled for early 2026. Drawings from subsequent years will be published on a continuous basis. The Online Catalogue Raisonné of Gustav Klimt’s Drawings will be freely accessible without restriction.
If you own one or more drawings by Gustav Klimt, or have information about their whereabouts, I kindly ask you to get in touch. All correspondence will, of course, be treated with the utmost discretion.
